Jozef Mehoffer (1869–1946) was one of Poland's most celebrated Young Poland movement artists, a master of stained glass, painting, and decorative design who helped define the country's Art Nouveau identity. He purchased this elegant townhouse at ul. Krupnicza 26 in 1932, and it became both his family home and creative sanctuary until his death. Today it operates as a branch of the National Museum in Krakow, preserving the house almost exactly as Mehoffer left it — his furniture, personal belongings, artwork, and beloved garden all intact. His international reputation was cemented by the breathtaking stained glass windows he designed for St. Nicholas Cathedral in Fribourg, Switzerland, a commission that occupied him for decades and earned him recognition far beyond Polish borders.
