Mały Rynek, or the Small Market Square, has been part of Krakow's urban fabric since the 14th century, when it served a decidedly unglamorous but essential purpose: it was the city's primary meat market, where butchers sold their wares to townspeople and merchants alike. While the grand Rynek Główny hosted kings and merchants trading in cloth and luxury goods, Mały Rynek was where everyday Krakovians came to buy their dinner.
