History & Background

Opened in 2014, Tauron Arena was built to fill a conspicuous gap: Poland's second city had no world-class indoor venue capable of hosting international touring acts. The 22,000-capacity arena changed that overnight. Named after its corporate sponsor, the Tauron energy group, the building was designed by the Dorte Mandrup Arkitekter studio and quickly became an architectural landmark in its own right. Its distinctive curved, shell-like exterior has transformed the eastern Vistula riverbank in the Podgórze district — an area already undergoing serious regeneration. Since opening, it has welcomed acts ranging from Coldplay and Roger Waters to Kendrick Lamar and Metallica, alongside major sporting events including ice hockey championships and boxing galas.

What to Expect

The arena sits at ul. Lema 7, a short tram or taxi ride from the Old Town — roughly 15 to 20 minutes depending on traffic. On event nights, the atmosphere builds well before showtime, with food stalls, merchandise stands, and a noticeably energetic crowd. The interior is modern and well-organised, with good sightlines from most sections. Floor standing areas get passionate quickly, while seated upper tiers offer solid views with slightly more breathing room. Outside of events, the building's exterior and riverside setting are worth a look — it photographs beautifully, especially at dusk when the facade is lit up.
