Every tourist buys a fridge magnet from the Cloth Hall. Here are the souvenirs that Krakovians would actually recommend — things with genuine craft, quality, and connection to the city.
AMBER JEWELRY: Poland is the world's largest producer of Baltic amber, and Krakow is the best place to buy it. Skip the cheapest Cloth Hall stalls (some sell pressed or synthetic amber) and visit specialist shops on Ulica Grodzka and Sw. Jana for certified natural pieces. A genuine amber pendant starts around 80-150 PLN.
BOLESLAWIEC POTTERY: The hand-painted stoneware from Boleslawiec is Poland's most famous craft export. Blue-and-white dotted patterns are classic, but contemporary designs are more exciting. The Cloth Hall has decent selection; specialist shops on Ulica Florianska have better quality and more variety.
POLISH VODKA: Bring home a bottle of Zubrówka Bison Grass vodka (the one with the grass blade in the bottle) from any supermarket for 40-60 PLN. For something special, visit a vodka shop for Starka (aged oak vodka), Sliwowica (plum brandy), or craft Polish vodkas.
OBWARZANEK EARRINGS: Local jewelers make miniature versions of Krakow's iconic bread rings as earrings and pendants — a uniquely Krakovian souvenir available in Kazimierz boutiques.
WHERE TO SHOP: Cloth Hall for traditional crafts, Kazimierz boutiques for contemporary design, Kleparz Market for food souvenirs, and any supermarket (Biedronka, Carrefour) for Polish chocolates, tea, and vodka at local prices.
