Free Things to Do in Krakow

Krakow offers an incredible amount of free entertainment, from world-class museums to stunning parks and architecture.

Krakow is one of the most generous cities in Europe when it comes to free attractions. Many of its best experiences cost nothing at all. The Main Market Square — the largest medieval square in Europe — is an open-air spectacle of Gothic architecture, street performers, and the hourly trumpet call from St. Mary's tower. Walking the Planty Park loop around the Old Town takes about an hour and passes beautiful fountains, sculptures, and the medieval Barbican.

Most of Krakow's major museums offer free admission one day per week. Schindler's Factory is free on Mondays (but tickets must be reserved online — they go fast). The National Museum's main building is free on Sundays. MOCAK contemporary art museum is free on Tuesdays. The Rynek Underground Museum offers free entry on Tuesdays (limited slots). Wawel Castle's courtyard is always free, and the views from the hill over the Vistula are stunning.

Churches are free to enter throughout Krakow, and many contain extraordinary art — the Franciscan Basilica's Art Nouveau interiors by Wyspianski are world-class. Krakus Mound offers the best panoramic view in the city for free, and it's a locals' favorite at sunset. Free walking tours (tip-based) depart daily from the Main Square and cover both the Old Town and Kazimierz in depth. The Vistula riverbanks have been beautifully developed with walking paths, outdoor bars (summer), and cultural events.
