Poland's design scene has exploded in recent years, and Krakow is at the forefront. Beyond traditional souvenirs, the city offers genuinely exciting contemporary fashion, homeware, and craft.
POLISH FASHION BRANDS:
Reserved, Mohito, and Medicine (all in Galeria Krakowska) offer contemporary Polish fashion at reasonable prices — think Zara-quality at lower cost. For independent designers, Kazimierz's boutiques on Ulica Jozefa carry one-off pieces from local creators.
CONTEMPORARY CRAFT:
The Cloth Hall's upper stalls still sell traditional crafts, but for contemporary Polish ceramics, jewelry, and design, explore the independent shops in Kazimierz. Polish designers are reimagining traditional Boleslawiec pottery patterns, amber settings, and linen textiles with modern aesthetics.
VINTAGE & SECONDHAND:
Kazimierz is a vintage shopping paradise. Shops on Ulica Jozefa and around Plac Nowy sell curated vintage clothing, communist-era design objects, mid-century furniture, and vinyl records. The Sunday flea market at Plac Nowy is the treasure-hunting highlight.
HOMEWARE:
Polish linen (len) is excellent quality and far cheaper than in Western Europe. Look for hand-loomed linen tablecloths, napkins, and towels at the Kleparz market. Contemporary Polish glass, ceramics, and woodwork are available at design shops in the Old Town.
BOOKSHOP CULTURE:
Massolit Books (English-language), Bona (Polish art books), and the secondhand bookstalls along the Planty offer bibliophile treasures. Polish graphic design and poster art — available as prints — make sophisticated, lightweight souvenirs.
