Guide to the Jewish Culture Festival

The world's largest celebration of Jewish culture transforms Kazimierz each summer.

Since 1988, the Jewish Culture Festival (Festival Kultury Zydowskiej) has been one of Krakow's most important cultural events — and one of the most significant Jewish cultural festivals in the world. Running for 10 days in late June to early July, it transforms Kazimierz into a celebration of Jewish music, art, food, film, theater, and dialogue.

The program includes over 200 events: workshops in Hebrew calligraphy, Yiddish language, Jewish cooking, and klezmer music. Walking tours explore Kazimierz's synagogues and the history of the community that thrived here for 500 years. Film screenings, lectures, and art exhibitions address both historical and contemporary Jewish life.

The climax is the Shalom on Szeroka concert — a massive free outdoor concert on Ulica Szeroka featuring international Jewish music acts. Past performers have ranged from traditional klezmer ensembles to hip-hop, electronic, and experimental artists. The street fills with thousands of people, the atmosphere is joyous, and the music continues deep into the night.

The festival is deliberately open and inclusive — the majority of attendees are non-Jewish Poles and international visitors. It represents both a celebration of living Jewish culture and a remembrance of what was lost.
