Krakow is widely considered the most LGBTQ+-friendly city in Poland, which is itself becoming more accepting. While Poland lacks same-sex marriage recognition, Krakow's young, university-educated population is overwhelmingly progressive, and the city has a visible queer community especially in Kazimierz.
Key venues include Miasto Kobiet (a queer-friendly cafe and community space), Tawerna Pod Napieciem (the longest-running gay bar), and the many mixed/queer-friendly bars along Ulica Jozefa in Kazimierz. The annual Equality March (May) draws thousands of supporters and is growing each year.
Public displays of affection are generally safe in the center and Kazimierz, though discretion may be wise in outer neighborhoods. Overall, visitors will find Krakow warm, welcoming, and far more progressive than Poland's international reputation might suggest.
