Krakow has one of the best nightlife scenes in Central Europe, and Kazimierz is the undisputed epicenter. The former Jewish quarter has been reborn as a bohemian playground where you can bar-hop through converted synagogues, crumbling courtyards, and candlelit cellars without walking more than a few hundred meters. Drinks are remarkably cheap compared to Western Europe — expect 12-18 PLN for a craft beer and 15-25 PLN for a cocktail.
Start the evening at Alchemia on Plac Nowy, the legendary bar that kickstarted Kazimierz's revival in the early 2000s. The front room is a candlelit, smoke-stained bar; the back room hosts live jazz and experimental music. Across the square, Miejsce has a beautiful garden courtyard. For cocktails, Bunkier Cafe near Planty Park mixes creative drinks in a brutalist art gallery setting. The Peso speakeasy (no sign, ring the bell) is worth finding for gin lovers.
For clubbing, Krakow's scene runs late — most clubs don't get busy until midnight and stay open until 5 or 6 AM. Szpitalna 1 is the most established club for electronic music. Hevre, in a converted synagogue, hosts both club nights and cultural events. The area around ul. Stolarska and ul. Bracka in the Old Town has higher-end bars and a more international crowd. Beer lovers should visit House of Beer (Pijalnia Piwa) for over 100 craft beers on tap.
