Krakow on a Budget — Tips for Under 200 PLN a Day

How to experience Krakow's best attractions, food, and nightlife without breaking the bank. A complete budget travel guide.

Krakow remains one of Europe's best-value city break destinations. With some planning, you can eat well, see the major sights, and enjoy the nightlife for under 200 PLN (roughly 45 EUR) per day, excluding accommodation. The key is knowing where locals go versus where tourists get charged double.

Start your mornings with free activities: walking the Planty Park loop, exploring the Main Market Square, and visiting churches (most are free). Many museums offer free entry one day per week — Schindler's Factory on Mondays, the National Museum on Sundays, MOCAK on Tuesdays. Budget around 25-30 PLN for a hearty lunch at a milk bar, where a full meal of soup, pierogi, and kompot costs what a single coffee runs on the Main Square.

For accommodation, hostels in the Old Town start around 60-80 PLN per night in dorms. Apartments on side streets in Kazimierz or Podgorze offer private rooms from 150-200 PLN. Use tram and bus passes (15 PLN for a 24-hour ticket) instead of taxis. Evening entertainment is affordable too — craft beer in Kazimierz bars costs 12-16 PLN, and many bars offer happy hour specials before 19:00. The free walking tours (tip-based) are genuinely excellent and cover both the Old Town and Kazimierz.
