Complete Krakow Packing List by Season

Exactly what to pack for Krakow in spring, summer, autumn, and winter — no more, no less.

Krakow's continental climate means hot summers and freezing winters, with beautiful but unpredictable shoulder seasons. Getting your packing right makes the difference between comfort and misery on those 20,000-step cobblestone days.

SPRING (March-May): Layers are essential. Mornings start at 5-8C and afternoons can reach 18-22C by May. Pack a light waterproof jacket, a warm fleece, and comfortable walking shoes that can handle wet cobblestones. An umbrella is non-negotiable — April showers are frequent and sudden.

SUMMER (June-August): Light clothing for days that hit 28-32C, but always carry a light cardigan for air-conditioned museums and cool church interiors. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a refillable water bottle are essentials. Evenings on restaurant terraces can cool down, so a light layer for after dark is wise.

AUTUMN (September-November): Similar to spring but with more reliable weather in September. October brings proper cold (5-12C) and the first frost by November. A proper jacket, scarf, and warm shoes become necessary. The golden foliage makes up for the chill.

WINTER (December-February): Serious cold requires serious gear. Temperatures regularly drop to -5C and can hit -15C. A heavy insulated coat, waterproof boots with good traction, thermal layers, a warm hat covering your ears, and insulated gloves are all mandatory. See our dedicated winter packing guide for the complete list.
