A Polish prepaid SIM card gives you fast 4G/5G data at a fraction of roaming costs. EU residents can use their home SIM at domestic rates, but visitors from outside the EU should get a local SIM.
Best options: Plus (Polkomtel), Play, Orange, and T-Mobile all sell prepaid SIMs. Play and Orange offer the best tourist-friendly packages. A 30-day plan with 30-50GB of data costs 30-50 PLN (about 7-12 EUR).
Where to buy: any electronics store (Media Markt, RTV Euro AGD in Galeria Krakowska), carrier shops (Orange and Play have stores on Florianska Street), or even some newspaper kiosks (Relay, Inmedio). Avoid buying at the airport — prices are higher.
What you need: your passport (Polish law requires ID registration for all SIM cards). The shop assistant will register the SIM and activate it — the process takes 10-15 minutes.
Activation: most SIMs are active immediately after registration. Top up via the carrier's app, at any Zabka convenience store, or online. The apps (Play24, Moj Orange) are available in English.
Free Wi-Fi: the Main Market Square, most cafes and restaurants, shopping malls, and many museums offer free Wi-Fi. Quality varies — dedicated data is more reliable.
eSIM alternative: if your phone supports eSIM, services like Airalo and Holafly offer Poland data plans you can activate before arrival. More expensive than a local SIM but zero setup hassle.
