Getting to Krakow by Train: Connections from Warsaw, Prague & Beyond

Poland's improving rail network makes Krakow accessible from across Central Europe.

Train travel to Krakow is increasingly attractive as Poland invests in its rail network. Here are the key connections.

FROM WARSAW: the most-traveled route. Intercity Premium (Pendolino) trains run hourly, taking 2 hours 20 minutes. Tickets from 49 PLN if booked in advance online (intercity.pl). Standard Intercity trains take 2.5-3 hours and are slightly cheaper. The train is faster and more comfortable than driving.

FROM WROCLAW: direct Intercity trains, approximately 3.5 hours. Several daily departures. From 39 PLN advance purchase.

FROM GDANSK: direct trains, approximately 5.5-6 hours through Warsaw. Night trains available. A long day of travel but doable.

FROM PRAGUE: direct connections via Ostrava, approximately 7-8 hours. The route through the mountains is scenic. RegioJet and LEO Express offer comfortable, affordable buses as faster alternatives (5.5 hours).

FROM VIENNA: RegioJet runs direct trains, approximately 6-7 hours. FlixBus is faster (5 hours). Flights are cheapest.

FROM BERLIN: no convenient direct train. Best option: train to Warsaw (5.5 hours) then Warsaw-Krakow (2.5 hours). Total 8-9 hours. Flights are more practical.

FROM BUDAPEST: connections via Katowice or Bratislava, approximately 7-9 hours. FlixBus direct service takes 6 hours and is usually the best option.

BOOKING TIPS: Polish rail tickets are cheapest when booked online at intercity.pl, 30+ days ahead. The Krakow Glowny (main station) is connected to the Old Town — a 10-minute walk to the Main Square. Left-luggage lockers available at the station.
