Krakow is one of Europe's best cities for families — the legends, the underground spaces, and the ice cream keep kids engaged while parents absorb the culture.
DAY 1: THE GREATEST HITS (Kid Version)
Morning: Start at the Main Square — kids love the horse carriages, the Hejnal trumpet call, and the pigeons. The Rynek Underground Museum is genuinely exciting for older kids (8+) with its holographic medieval market.
Mid-morning: Wawel — the Dragon's Den (a real cave with spiral staircase!) and the fire-breathing dragon statue are the highlight of any kid's Krakow trip. The dragon breathes fire every few minutes — wait for it. The castle courtyard is free and fun to explore.
Lunch: zapiekanka at Plac Nowy (kids choose their own toppings) or pierogi at Przystanek Pierogarnia.
Afternoon: Museum of Municipal Engineering in Kazimierz — vintage trams to climb on and an interactive technology section. Ice cream at Good Lood afterward.
Evening: early dinner at Morskie Oko (highland food, fun atmosphere) or Wesele (bread-bowl soup).
DAY 2: ADVENTURE DAY
Full day at Wieliczka Salt Mine — the underground lakes, salt sculptures, and St. Kinga's Chapel blow kids' minds. The mine is a constant 14C, so bring layers.
OR: half-day at the Polish Aviation Museum (200+ aircraft, cockpit simulators) in Nowa Huta, followed by an afternoon at Wodny Park (swimming, slides, thermal pools).
DAY 3: NATURE + FUN
Morning: Krakow Zoo in the Wolski Forest (combine with forest walking trails). Afternoon: cycling the Vistula path or playing in Jordan's Park (one of the world's first public playgrounds). Ice cream round two at Good Lood.
Kid-specific tips: most museums are free or discounted for children. Restaurants are family-friendly and high chairs are common. The tram system fascinates kids. Pack snacks — Polish meal times are earlier than Southern European ones.
