History & Background

The Forum Hotel opened in 1988 as a grand symbol of late Soviet-era ambition, only to fall into disuse after the political and economic upheavals of the 1990s. For years the hulking concrete structure sat dormant, a ghost on the riverbank. Then, in 2016, a collective of Krakow creatives saw potential where others saw decay. Rather than demolishing or fully renovating the building, they leaned into its raw, unfinished character — exposed concrete, crumbling interiors, and all — to create something entirely new. Today it stands as one of the most compelling examples of adaptive reuse in Poland, and a defining symbol of modern Krakow's cultural confidence.

What to Expect

Arrive and you'll find an eclectic mix of container bars, street food trucks, pop-up vendors, and open-air terraces spilling along the southern bank of the Vistula, directly opposite Wawel Castle. The view across the river to the castle and the cathedral, especially as the sun drops in the evening, is genuinely one of the finest in the city — no entrance fee required. During the warmer months (May through September), the space buzzes with live DJs, open-air yoga sessions, film screenings, and spontaneous cultural events. Prices are refreshingly reasonable — expect to pay 15–25 PLN for a craft beer or cocktail. The crowd is a happy mix of students, artists, tourists, and Krakow professionals unwinding after work. It's casual, welcoming, and impossible to feel out of place.
