Krakow's music festival calendar is remarkably rich for a city of 800,000. Here's what's on each month.
JANUARY-FEBRUARY: Winter jazz concerts in cellar bars. The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOSP) concert in mid-January.
MARCH: Krakow Opera Spring season opens. Easter music in churches — organ recitals, choral concerts, and oratorio performances.
APRIL: Misteria Paschalia — an early music festival celebrating Renaissance and Baroque sacred music in historic churches. International performers, extraordinary acoustics.
MAY: Sacrum Profanum — contemporary music festival bringing cutting-edge classical, electronic, and experimental music to unconventional venues. One of Europe's most adventurous classical festivals.
JUNE: Jewish Culture Festival — the closing Shalom on Szeroka concert features international Jewish music. Krakow Live Festival — major pop/rock acts in an outdoor setting. Wianki midsummer celebrations with live music on the Vistula.
JULY: Summer Jazz Festival — outdoor jazz concerts in the city's parks and courtyards. Film music concerts at the ICE Krakow.
AUGUST: Krakow on Rynek — free open-air concerts on the Main Market Square throughout the month, ranging from opera to pop.
SEPTEMBER: Sacrum Profanum continues. Krakow Film Music Festival. Early autumn jazz series.
OCTOBER: Unsound Festival — the flagship event, 7 days of cutting-edge electronic and experimental music in venues from salt mines to churches. Internationally acclaimed since 2003.
NOVEMBER-DECEMBER: Advent concerts in churches (free). Krakow Philharmonic season in full swing. New Year's Eve concert on the Main Square.
