Zablocie, the industrial zone behind Schindler's Factory, is Krakow's most rapidly evolving neighborhood. Former warehouses and factories are being converted into artist studios, co-working spaces, craft breweries, and restaurants, creating an energy reminiscent of early Williamsburg or Shoreditch.
The anchor is MOCAK (Museum of Contemporary Art), built on the grounds adjacent to the Schindler Factory. Around it, a cluster of creative businesses has emerged: the Art & Technology Centre for digital art, independent galleries in converted workshops, and design studios in former manufacturing spaces.
The food scene in Zablocie is increasingly exciting — newer restaurants freed from the tourist-menu obligations of the Old Town can experiment. Look for contemporary Polish bistros, specialty coffee roasters, and craft beer taprooms. Food trucks gather near the MOCAK area on weekends.
The architecture itself is the attraction: graffiti-covered brick walls, industrial chimneys, railway sidings being transformed into linear parks, and the contrast between communist-era factories and sleek new apartment blocks. The Cricoteka (Tadeusz Kantor museum) on the riverbank, with its mirrored building hovering above a former power station, epitomizes the neighborhood's layered identity.
Reach Zablocie by walking across the Bernatka Footbridge from Kazimierz (10 minutes) or via tram lines 3, 9, or 50.
